Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the escalation in VAW in Cameroon can be linked to growing trends of militarization and militarism, prevailing unequal gender relations and economic upheaval. Violence against women (VAW) in Cameroon has become more common, acceptable and has taken on more brutal forms. ![]() Īlthough such pronouncements seem progressive and benevolent on paper, this has not been the reality for women in Cameroon. Under no circumstances, this constitution states, “shall any person be subjected to torture, to cruel inhumane or degrading treatment”. ![]() The Constitution of Cameroon affirms to women, a right to life, to physical and moral integrity and to humane treatment in all circumstances.
